POV, you’re watching the trailer: Hmmm, another genric isekai with overpowered protagonist accompanied with waifus and commanding an army. Nothing to look forward to. Oh well, I’ll just watch MHA.
POV, you start watching the first episode: Wait, what is happening! This guy is crazy! So adaptive and creative!
“Tsuki ga michibiku isekai douchuu” or “Tsukimichi moonlight fantasy” is a fantasy/isekai anime that started airing in the summer season of 2021. The story is centred around a teenager who was summoned to another world to be a hero. Heard this before? Don’ leave yet, because the show applies a twist to this concept.
The premise begins with our protagonist, Misumi Makoto, just returning home after a long and tiring day from school. But he suddenly finds himself isolated in a dimensional plane. He meets a God named “Tsukuyomi”, who reveals that Misumi’s parents are from another world. They entered a contract with the goddess to transport them to earth in exchange for giving up their most precious belonging, which turned out to be their eldest son, Misumi. After going over some details, Misumi agrees to the condition and goes to meet her. Expecting to become the hero and gain some ridiculous abilities to fight the demon king, Makoto goes to meet the goddess. But upon meeting her, his world was turned upside down. She insults him by calling him ugly and coarse. She then strips him of his rank as a hero and grants him the ability to converse with any being except humans. She drops him at the edge of the world, laughing as he falls to his death. But the noble God Tsukuyomi rescues him. In haste, he gives Makoto all the powers he has and gives him his blessing, as the great lord of the night sky falls into a long slumber. Motivated by the kind words of Tsukuyomi and the disgust he feels towards the goddess, Misumi Makoto begins his journey in this new world.
This is one of the most interesting premises I’ve ever seen in anime. It lands perfectly in between the concepts of “Shield Hero” and “Konosuba”. Accompanied with the perfect characters and some crisp animation, the premise is further carried through very nicely.
Speaking of characters, written by Kei Azumi and voiced by Natsuki Hanae, Misumi Makoto becomes a fan favourite instantly. He is both overwhelmingly strong and is very creative with his power as well. He also gives us some good moments of comedic humour.
We are also introduced to some side characters like Emma and the rest of the high-orcs. Their appearance might fool you to believe that they are feral and barbaric, but in reality, they are soft and kind creatures, who the viewers take a liking instantly. And we are also introduced to an important character who you will only know if you watch the episode. All these characters bring the whole story to life.
The opening and ending share very different tones, but they go along very well together. The score was also suitable for the moments and didn’t fail in engaging the viewers even further into the show.
This is one of the most captivating shows airing this season, and I am thoroughly enjoying it and can’t wait to see more.
