Thought I would put a Gundam series on suggestion because I don’t see this behemoth of a franchise getting covered by anyone.
The Gundam mecha franchise is huge, with long running plots that at first glance hard to know where to start. I picked ‘Iron Blooded Orphans’ because it is one of the series that is completely unrelated to that original story (completely different story, settings) and is standalone.
If you want a 50ish episodes series with a more serious plot and good hand drawn mecha combat action, give Gundam franchise a chance, and I would suggest standalone like Iron Blooded Orphans as a great starting point.
