Behind the Reactions: Copyright Strikes, Long Recording Days and Why Some Shows Don’t Get Covered

Every week somebody asks me some version of the same question. Where did that reaction go? Why haven’t you started this show? Why aren’t you covering the one everybody’s talking about?

Fair questions. So let me pull the curtain back a little on how the channel actually runs, because it’s not as simple as “Rock didn’t feel like it.”

Copyright strikes are a real part of the job

I’ll start with the one that hits the hardest.

That’s a joke. I love the show. But I really have been getting my butt kicked by copyright claims every other day. And when it gets to strikes, it changes what I can post.

When you get hit with three strikes and two of them won’t go away for 90 days, you play it safe. That means pulling videos, pausing series, and holding off on shows that are known to be strike-heavy. It’s not me abandoning y’all mid-season. It’s me protecting the channel so there’s still a channel to watch.

If rights holders are actively striking channels for a show, I’m not starting it just to lose the whole series and take a hit on top of it.

The business doesn’t clock out

There was a big debate on my timeline about creators vs. 9-to-5s, and I got into it. My position: my success came from the attributes I built at my 9-to-5, applied to my own business.

I don’t record because I feel like it or edit because I feel like it. I follow a schedule and put in the 40 hours like any job. The difference is the hours don’t end cleanly.

We get copyright strikes at 3 a.m., 5 a.m., 8 p.m., 11 p.m. It’s nonstop. That’s not me saying my job is harder than yours. That’s just what this job is.

Why I passed on Dragon Ball Super: Beerus (for now)

People don’t always realize what reacting does to your attention.

If I’m watching on my own time and something gets boring, I can get up, wash dishes, fast-forward, go on my phone. When I’m reacting, I have to sit through everything: the boring parts, the stuff I’ve already seen, all of it. And we have long recording days.

So if a show is mostly a remake of something I already lived through, I worry about hitting a low point, being drained, and still having more shows to record. Worst case, it’s the last show of the day, somebody falls asleep, and that’s a bad video for y’all.

The shows that work for me are stimulating start to finish. The Pit. Dark. Current Slime. Current Re:Zero. I don’t need coffee for those. That’s the bar.

Why some great shows don’t get covered

This one’s honest, and maybe not what you want to hear.

The streets sleep on some shows. If I don’t see traction compared to other shows on channels that cover it, I end up watching it on my own and saving those slots for what people support the channel most for. Slots are limited. Recording time is limited. Y’all vote with your views, and I listen.

So if you want a show on the channel, show up for it. Comment, share and watch the first episodes. That’s how a show earns its slot.

The Highlights channel is for you

I know you don’t have time to watch every full reaction. So we’re putting our more interesting discussion clips on the Yaboyrocklee Highlights channel. If you want the conversations without the full watch, subscribe there. It tells me you want more of the discussion side, and that shapes what we make.

Bottom line

When a video disappears or a show never starts, there’s usually a strike, a schedule, or a slot decision behind it. Not a lack of love for the show. Thanks for riding with us through all of it.

Usually a copyright claim or strike. When strikes stack up, I pull or pause videos to protect the channel.
